The Senior Hurlers travelled to Monaghan tonight (Saturday) to take on Monaghan Harps in the Ulster Hurling League. We had comprehensively beaten the Harps the previous Saturday at Boucher Road 2-15 to 2-3 but we knew we would face a sterner task in their own backyard.

We started the match all guns blazing and in a blistering first twenty minutes had established a 2-7 to 0-0 lead. Our scores came from Tommy Toland 1-1, Anton McCaffery 0-3, G Nelson 0-1 and top scorer Rory McAvoy 1-2. Monaghan then came back into the game with three pointed frees and a goal to leave the half time score 2-7 to 1-3.

The second half was a very tight affair with scores hard to come by as both teams cancelled each other out. Our only score of the half was a Canice Mooney point while Monaghan’s response was 0-2. This win has now moved us to top of the Division with our last two matches home and away to St Eunan’s of Letterkenny.
