The senior footballers secured the Beringer Cup, for the second time in three years, when turning in their best performance of the season against St Malachys at Casement Park last night.

We were totally dominant from the first whistle, playing expansive football which St Malachys struggled to cope with. We moved the ball quickly, created a lot of space and were clinical in front of the posts. We raced into a 0-10 to 0-0 lead with points from A McGrattan 0-2, C O’Riordan 0-2, S O’Neill 0-2, G Burns 0-2, Collie O’Riordan 0-1 and S McGovern 0-1. It wasn’t until the 23rd minute that St Malachys registered their first point of the game from a free but points each for D Wallace and R Rooney gave us a half time lead 0-12 to 0-1.

We put the game to bed early in the second half, an A McGrattan point was followed by two goals from D Wallace and A McGrattan. Credit to St Malachys as they battled hard and were duly rewarded with a cracking goal and a point but again we responded with points from G Burns and L Boyce. However, St Malachys hit back with another goal and a point but we finished strongly  with points from L McGivern and S McGovern to take the title 2-17 to 2-3.

All over the pitch everyone won their own personal battle but the pleasing aspect was the way we played as a unit. Our work rate was high and there was great intensity in our tackling, while the end product, our shooting was excellent.

This is the boost that we needed, our first piece of silverware in this our centenary year. Hopefully we carry this form through to the championship in a few weeks time. Well done to the players and management!
