The senior footballers took the spoils in this senior football encounter at Cliftonville. On a wet and windy evening we came out the victors by two points. Danny Wallace opened the scoring with a well taken point but the home team were quickly back on level terms. We had a lot of possession and created several scoring opportunities but we were wayward with our shooting and we got caught on the break as Ardoyne broke up-field and crashed the ball to the net. They quickly followed up with a pointed free and at this stage we were under the cosh. However, we steadied the ship and points from Aaron Slane (0-2), Gerard Burns and James Lindsay levelled the game again. Another point from an Ardoyne free edged them in front but we finished the half strongly and three unanswered points from Chris Gallagher, Anthony Rowntree and Aaron Slane saw us go in at the break with a two point advantage 0-8 to 1-3.
The second half was equally as competitive, two Ardoyne points levelled the game again, a well kicked Chris Gallagher free put us back in front but Ardoyne reeled off three points to get back into the lead. A vital goal from James Lindsay followed by a Liam McGivern point restored our two point advantage but Ardoyne refused to give up, kicking three points to take the lead by the minimum. A final push saw Liam McGivern blast the ball to the back of the net and this proved to be enough to give us a much needed win 2-10 to 1-11.
