The senior footballers unbeaten run ended when they were well beaten by a good Con Magee’s side.
We played with the advantage of the strong breeze in the first half but the opening 10 minutes were void of any real scoring opportunities as both teams battled to get the upper hand. Chris Rafferty opened the scoring with a free from a close in free after 11 minutes with Anto McGrattan doubling our advantage with a nice point off his left foot. Con Magee’s first score of the day was a major, after 16 minutes, as they worked the ball through a wall of players and Eoin Hynds finished to the net. A point from Eamon Fyfe extended the home sides advantage before Chris Rafferty kicked his second point of the day. Further points from Con Magees, one from a free and the second from a good spell of possession and probing gave them a half time lead 1-3 to 0-3.
Conn Magees set their stall out direct from the throw in with a point from Rian Lennon. They added a further point before Eoin Hynds netted their second goal, and their third point of the second half doubled their half time lead within 4 minutes of the resumption. They made excellent use of the breeze and we struggled to keep them at bay. Further points and a David Higgins goal left us in arrears on a score of 3-8 to 0-3 with no avenue back into the game. Chris Rafferty kicked our first point of the second half after 13 minutes and while we added consolation points from Michael Connolly (0-2) and CJ Sullivan, two Con Magee points saw them deserved winners 3-10 to 0-7.
