The senior footballers had a single point victory over St Paul’s at Colaiste Feirste. We led at the break 0-8 to 0-3 and there is no questioning we should have been a further 4 or 5 points ahead.
St Pauls opened the scoring from a free after 2 minutes which was cancelled out when Aaron Slane kicked over a point and 2 quickfire points from Chris Gallagher put us in control. A period of the game then ensued where we created many scoring chances but failed to convert, while St Pauls kicked two points to level the match. We responded well, and went on a scoring spree with 5 unanswered points from Anthony Rowntree (0-2), Aaron Slane (f) and Decky Smyth 0-2 to give us a healthy lead at the break.
St Pauls opened the scoring in the second half with a well taken point and when we kicked consecutive wides, St Pauls enjoyed their best spell of the game. On 38 minutes they scored a goal and followed up with 3 points to lead by 2. However, despite being on the back-foot we composed ourselves and levelled the game with points from Daniel Largey and Aaron Slane.
As the game progressed into injury time, St Pauls lost possession in their full back line, the ball went to Chris Rafferty who had the option of passing across the small square for what would have been a tap in goal but he chose to fist the ball over the bar for what was to be the winning score. Final Davitts 0-11 St Pauls 1-7.
