The senior footballers put in a spirited performance against Moneyglass at the Falls Park, however a slow start to the game saw us trail 0-1 to 0-7 and this was to prove our downfall. Despite Moneyglass’ dominance early on we rallied in the latter stages of the half and at half time trailed 0-9 to 0-5 with points from Daniel Largey, Chris Rafferty, Ryan Park and a brace from Sean O’Neill.
We looked a rejuvenated side in the second half with points from Ceavy Slane, Chris Rafferty and Nathan Maginn. A penalty award then gave us the opportunity to take the lead for the first time in the game but Daniel Largey blasted the ball over the bar to leave one between the sides. However, we were soon on level terms when Decky Smith kicked between the sticks, but Moneyglass responded with three pointed frees. A Sean O’Neill pointed free then left two between the sides but Moneyglass quickly restored their goal cushion. Anthony Rowntree then took possession in the Moneyglass box and despite his best attempts to hit the net the ball went over the bar – two in it. With time running down we pushed and pressed to get the elusive goal that would give us victory but as we surged forward Moneyglass turned over the ball, broke at pace and fired to the net to assure them of the victory.
