The senior footballers began their league campaign with a well deserved home win over Tir Na nOg at Woodlands. We had the assistance of a strong breeze in the first half and made full use of it. We had Tir na Nog on the back foot from the throw in and points from Ciaran O’Riordan, Aaron Slane (f) and Daniel Largey saw us lead by three. Tir Na nOg kicked their first point in the 10th minute but further points from Aaron Slane (f) and Anthony Rowntree extended our lead. A Tir Na nOg pointed free reduced the deficit but two points from Ryan Park, the second an absolute cracker opened a five point advantage. Tir Na nOg added another point, before Aaron Slane kicked a pointed free. Decky Smyth got the last point of the half to give us a 0-9 to 0-3 lead at the break.
With the wind at their backs in the second half Tir Na nOg were quickly out of the blocks with a point from the restart. At this stage it looked as if this would give them momentum to push on, however we were solid all over the park, keeping any scoring opportunities to the minimum and even when they did present they were always under severe pressure to convert. Ciaran O’Riordan kicked two further points sandwiched between a Tir Na Nog pointed free. The Randlestown men then reduced the arrears to four with two points but a pointed free from Aaron Slane saw us over the winning line, deserved victors 0-12 to 0-7.
