Gortnamona had 6 points to spare at the end of this competitive senior football game at the Falls Park. The first half was a tight, cagey affair with the lead changing on several occasions. Gortnamona led 0-3 to 0-2Â before a major extended their advantage. We were straight back at them with points from A Slane, D Largey (0-2) to leave the minimum between the sides. A Gortnamona pointed free was followed up with a Ryan Park goal, the ball was hoisted high into the edge of the square and he rose up and flicked it to the net to edge us in front. We extended our lead when Daniel Largey converted a penalty but we failed to consolidate the lead and allowed Gortnamona to immediately respond with a goal of their own to reduce our lead to a single point. Gortnamona then kicked a point to level the game but Anthony Rowntree restored our lead with a point and on the stroke of half time Gortnamona equalised to leave the half time score 2-6 each.
Two early second half points gave us a deserved advantage but Gortnamona raised their efforts as they scored 1-4 to take a substantial lead. We pressed and despite adding another point it was Gortnamona who finished the stronger to take the win 2-9 to 3-12.
