The senior footballers were no match on the night on this away trip to Dunloy. Dunloy were on top of their game and we found ourselves under constant pressure. They broke at pace from defense and were very economical with their scoring ratio. They raced into a 5 point advantage before a Jay Close point got us of the mark. However 1-6 from Dunloy without reply virtually killed of the game as a contest even at such an early stage. An Aaron Slane converted penalty on the stroke of half time was a mere token and didn’t really make much inroads on the deficit. Half time Dunloy 1-11 Davitts 1-1.
An Aaron Slane pointed free got the scoring under way in the second half but Dunloy again came strong with 4 points to stretch their advantage. Jay Close then scored the point of the game, he fielded the ball in his own full back line and raced forward, evading tackle after tackle before stepping inside to nonchalantly kick the ball between the posts. However, we never enjoyed any periods of dominance and despite points from Aaron Slane, Anthony Rowntree and Chris Rafferty, Dunloy outscored us to run out convincing winners.
