The senior footballers showed great determination, positive attitude and concentration all over the pitch to ensure they kept their unbeaten record intact last Wednesday night at home to Naomh Uile in a fiercely competitive game with Aaron Slane’s penalty save also a key factor in the win.
Naomh Uile got the first point of the game from Cal O’Brien but Padraig McParland levelled with a surging run from his own half and a nice finish. CJ Sullivan followed up when he let the ball run across his body, flicked it past his man, took possession and kicked over the bar. Further points from Ceavy Slane, Padraig McParland and Gerard Slane (f) extended our advantage to a goal. Benny McDonnell reduced the deficit with a point for Naomh Uile but Deaglan Mooney pointed following good work by Anto McGrattan. Aaron Slane then pointed a long range free and Padraig McParland added to his tally. Sean McVeigh kicked a nice point for Naomh Uile before Gerard Slane fired over a close in free. Naomh Uile finished the half with two points from James McDonnell and we went in at the break leading 0-9 to 0-6.
The second half was a very tight affair as we set up to repel the expected Naomh Uile onslaught as they looked to take advantage of the strong wind. Our tactics worked to a treat as the hard work and endeavour ensured that scoring opportunities were very difficult to come by, and when they did arise, there were no easy chances. Padraig McParland got the opening point of the second half when he ran almost the full length of the pitch to kick a perfect shot into the wind and over the bar. Naomh Uile then got a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty. Shea O’Brien stepped up to take it but his shot was expertly saved by Aaron Slane. James McDonnell tagged on two points for Naomh Uile but CJ Sullivan pointed to leave three between the sides and we did enough to see the game out and deservedly take the points on a score line of 0-11 to 0-8.
