The senior footballers put in their best display of the year, accounting for previously unbeaten Naomh Séamas with a controlled and stylish display.
Things didn’t look too good with Naomh Séamas winning possession from the throw-in, foraging up field and kicking the opening point. They were out of the blocks fast and looked envigored, up for the task and it appeared that it could be a long night for us when they added two further points to take a goal lead after 7 minutes. However, that was to be their final score of the half as we got our match-ups right and started to play calm and controlled football. We were totally dominant, and the Aldergrove men seemed to recoil inside their shell as we kicked 0-7 without reply and it was visibly obvious that we had broken their resolve. On target in the first half were Gerard Slane (0-3), Padraig McParland (0-2), CJ Sullivan and Jay Maguire as we led at the half time whistle 0-7 to 0-3.
The second half was more of the same and despite Naomh Séamas reducing the deficit at one stage to two, it was one of those nights when you knew we were playing well within ourselves and with points from top scorer Gerard Slane 0-3, Marcas Toner who scored with his first touch after coming on as a sub and CJ Sullivan, we comfortably saw the game out finishing in the top six as the league now splits into 2A and 2B.
