The senior footballers picked up their first points of the league campaign when they deservedly accounted for Naomh Pól at Páirc Mac Dáibhéid on Wednesday night.
This was a much improved performance on our recent outings and for long periods of the first half Naomh Pól couldn’t cope with the pace of our attack and support play which gave us many scoring opportunities. At the first water break we had established a lead of 0-5 to 0-2 with 5 different scorers Michael Connolly, Aaron Slane, Conor Toner, Gerard Slane and Anthony McGrattan. From the restart we pushed on with points from CJ Sullivan (0-2), one with the outside of the boot from the right side of the pitch, Gerard Slane (0-2) and Paul McKinney to take an 8 point advantage at the interval 0-10 to 0-2.
Naomh Pól pointed from a free on the restart but when Anthony Rowntree stormed out of defense, laid a pass to CJ Sullivan who passed to Stephen Tully who fed the ball to Marcus Toner who raced goalwards and hammered the ball past the Naomh Pól keeper. Naomh Pól then enjoyed their best spell of the game kicking 1-4 to reduce our lead to a goal but as time ticked away Aaron Slane slotted over a free to give us the insurance score and we ran out due winners 1-11 to 1-7.
