The senior footballers winning streak continued with a good away win at Lann Abhiagh on Wednesday evening. Despite trailing by five points in the second half we produced some great football and ran out winners with six points to spare.
We led 0-2 to 0-0 after 4 minutes with points from Michael Connolly and Marcus Toner before Naomh Seosamh opened their account with a well taken point. Both teams added points from frees with Stephen Tully on the mark and when Anthony Rowntree kicked an excellent point we held a 0-4 to 0-2 lead at the first water break. The break seemed to knock us out of our stride as Naomh Seosamh scored their opening goal to edge in front, quickly following up with another major to extend their advantage. However, we didn’t panic and playing some nice possession football we teased out points from Michael Connolly (f), Danny Wallace and Stephen Tully (f) to reduce the deficit to the minimum. Each team added further points with Chris Gallagher’s right footed shot sailing over the bar. Naomh Seosamh finished the half strongly, kicking 3 unanswered points to take a half time lead 2-6 to 0-8.
A Naomh Seosamh point early in the second half left us five in arrears but points from CJ Sullivan (0-2) and a sweetly struck goal from the penalty spot by Michael Connolly levelled the game. A Naomh Seosamh point from an advanced mark put them back in front but Danny Wallace pointed to bring the sides level at the second water break. On the restart we upped the intensity with points from CJ Sullivan and Anton McGrattan following a great run from Conor Toner. Stephen Tully then played a high ball in towards the Naomh Seosamh square and the bounce deceived everyone except Paul McKinney who got his fist to the ball to direct it to the back of the net. We then won possession from the subsequent kick out with Paul McKinney breaking the ball to Marcus Toner who kicked over the bar. Naomh Seosamh broke our scoring sequence with a point but substitute Chris Rafferty pointed with his first touch and Marcus Toner added another point to give us a seven point advantage with time almost up. The final point came from Naomh Seosamh and we had taken another two points on a score line of 2-10 to 2-16.
