We started the game in good fashion picking up on the good form that we had shown in recent outings. Both teams traded early points with Decky Smyth on the mark following a pinpoint kick out from Aaron Slane to Anthony Rowntree who passed off to Decky, who drove at the Rasharkin defence before kicking between the sticks to level. Rasharkin responded with a further point before a free flowing move down the left wing saw the ball played across the edge of the square for James Lindsay to fist to the net. Again Rasharkin replied with a point. We were the dominant force at this stage and created several scoring opportunities but we were guilty of failing to convert, dropping several balls into the keeper’s hands and shooting from outside the scoring zone and wide. We did tag on points from Colm McKee and Ceavy Slane, both frees, to lead at half time 0-6 to 0-3 and in a strong position to win the game.
It was Rasharkin who were totally transformed in the second half. They changed their tactics and outscored us 3-8 to 0-2. We didn’t sustain the effort of our first half performance and were punished accordingly. However, we did create several opportunities to get inside their defence for goal chances but picked the wrong option or delayed the pass and the chances went begging. Our second half points came from Sean McGovern an excellent pointed free from a very acute angle out near the right side-line and Decky Smyth.
Given our recent form and even our first half effort it was very disappointing the way our second half performance dramatically dipped, however we need to pick ourselves up and make sure we are prepared for our next challenge, a home game against Moneyglass on 31 May 2019.
Our scorers: James Lindsay 1-0, Decky Smyth 0-2, Colm McKee 0-1, Ceavy Slane 0-1, Sean McGovern 0-1
