Following our loss to Moneyglass the senior footballers got back on the winning trail with a 2 point win over Sarsfields at the Bear Pit.
We were very much in control of the game in the 1st half and if truth be told we had enough scoring opportunities to have the game won by the break. However, a combination of some wayward shooting and good Sarsfield’s defense we had to rely on early scores from frees, with Aaron Slane slotting over 4 nice points. However points from play for Sean O’Neill and Danny Wallace gave us a three point lead 0-6 to 0-3 and the half finished with a Sarsfield’s point in injury time to reduce our lead to two.
Scores were at a premium at the start of the 2nd half as both teams battled to get the upper hand. A Ciaran O’Riordan pointed free after 42 minutes extended our lead but Sarsfields came back strong offensively and with three unanswered points levelled the game. At this stage they had the initiative and we could easily of folded but we showed great character and resolve to get back in the mix. Daniel Largey pointed to put us in the lead and again Sarsfields levelled from a free. We finished strongly, and a Nathan Maginn point with 2 minutes to go followed by a pointed Aaron Slane free saw us over the line, victorious in a tough game to give us 4 points from our opening three games. Final score Sarsfields 0-8 Davitts 0-10.
