The first round of fixtures following the league split saw us take on Rasharkin at the Falls Park.
It was an even start to the game as both teams traded point for point early on to tie the game 3 points each (Padraig McParland (0-3). Rasharkin were then awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched to the back of the net. We were back on track with pointed frees from Aaron Slane and Padraig McParland and a Conor Toner point levelled the game again. The final score of the half also came from Conor Toner who started the play in his own half, passed off on several occasions, took the return and popped it over the bar to give us a half time lead 0-7 to 0-6.
We started brightly in the second half and increased our lead with points from Padraig McParland (0-2), the second a great effort from 45 yards out on the right side line, he struck the ball with the outside of his boot and it sailed between the sticks. Ceavy Slane then pointed, after a great solo run out of defence from Nathan Maginn. Rasharkin responded with two points but substitute Anto McGrattan added his first point of the game and Padraig McParland added to his points tally to double our advantage. A Rasharkin pointed free reduced the deficit to a goal but from here on, we finished strongly with points from Decky Smyth and Niall Hughes and when Anthony Rowntree blasted to the net we had an eight point lead. A point from Anto McGrattan in the dying minutes secured the victory on a score of 1-15 to 1-06. Click here for photos of the game.
