The senior footballers got the second half of their league campaign of to a winning start with a home victory over O’Donnells at the Falls Park. Points from Colm McKee and Anthony Rowntree gave us the perfect start and when Gerard Nugent blasted the ball to the net and Chris Gallagher pointed a free we were firmly in the driving seat after the opening 15 minutes. O’Donnells replied with 3 points, all from frees, to half the deficit but in the final 10 minutes of the half we increased our advantage with Gerard Nugent pointing a free and Niall Hughes getting on the score sheet with 1-1. Half time Davitts 2-5 O’Donnells 0-3.
Both teams traded points at the start of the second half (Gerard Nugent) before we pushed on and established a winning position. Gerard Nugent pointed another free, Niall Hughes helped himself to another point and a goal from Chris Gallagher stretched us 13 points in front. O’Donnells responded with a brace of points, one from a free before Paul McKinney struck our 4th goal of the game. We finished strongly with 5 further points to O’Donnells 0-3 with scores coming from, Aaron Slane 0-3 and Decky Smyth 0-2 to give us the winning start and retain our position on the top of Div 2B.
