The senior footballers put in a poor performance in this must win game at Dunsilly and it was the Antrim outfit who deservedly took the points. St Comhghalls were the hungrier side, sharper to the ball and when opportunities presented they took their scores. Having said that we opened the scoring with a fine Ciaran O’Riordan point and after Antrim levelled an Aaron Slane point put us back in front. However, that unfortunately was to be our last score of the half and St Comghghall’s reeled of 5 points to lead at half time 0-6 to 0-2.
Midway through the second half we found ourselves 8 points in arrears despite further points from Ciaran O’Riordan and Chris Gallagher. However, we then had an excellent spell in the game, Chris Gallagher pointed a free and then two quick fire goals, one from Gerard Burns and a second from Ciaran O’Riordan left one between the sides. At this stage the Antrim outfit were on the back foot, they were edgy and defending very deep. We kept on the press and had several opportunities to level the game even have gone in front but we were not clinically enough with our finishing. It came back to haunt us as a forage up the pitch saw the ball blasted to our net and we trailed by four. A final point saw St Comhghalls over the line and despite a better second half performance it was not good enough on the day.
