The senior hurlers ran out convincing winners against Loch Mor at Mallusk last Sunday. We forged into six point advantage, following points from Stephen McGivern, Chris Gallagher and Colm McKee and a goal from Conor Matthews as he fired to the net after getting on the end of a sideline ball from Canice Mooney. Loch Mor halved the deficit with a major before Chris Gallagher pointed following a foul on Kevin Brady. Canice Mooney added a further point, before our second goal; Thomas Toland took possession of the sliotar, passed it to Canice Mooney who fed Chris Gallagher who struck a high ball into the square and Anthony Rowntree finished to the net. The half came to a close with points from Chris Gallagher (f) and a first of the game from Sean McElhatton. Half time: Loch Mor 1-0 Davitts 2-7
Both teams exchanged points at the start of the second half; a Canice Mooney point was cancelled out with a Loch Mor point from a 65, Colm McKee pointed after a move involving Chris Gallagher, Canice Mooney and Conor Matthews, before an excellent point for Loch Mor from a sideline cut on the right side of the pitch. We tagged on four further points from Canice Mooney, Thomas Maguire, Stephen McGivern and Chris Gallagher but hesitation in the back line saw Loch Mor get their second goal of the game. Sean Prenter then got in on the scoring with a point before Loch Mor struck their third goal when a free deceived everyone and the sliotar nestled in the back of the net. We finished the game strongly with points from Colm McKee, Sean Prenter and Chris Gallagher 0-2 and a somewhat exquisite finish to the net from Gerard McNally to see us winner 3-19 to 3-2.
