ACHL Div 4 – Mac Dáibhéid 2-13 Loch Mór 2-12

A goal in the dying minutes of this league encounter secured both points for the senior hurlers in their first league outing of 2023.

Colm McKee opened the scoring with a well taken point but it was Loch Mór who looked more dangerous and they forged into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 10 minutes. We hit back with a pointed free from Marcas Toner and a second point from Colm McKee but Loch Mór steadied and fired over a point from long range. We then enjoyed a decent spell in the game and took the lead with scores coming from another pointed free from Marcas Toner, a goal from Chris Cunningham and a nice point from Caoimhin Rainey on the run out on the right side of the pitch. Both teams traded further points (Marcas Toner (f)) before Loch Mór struck their first major of the day and then followed up with a brace of points to leave us trailing at the break 1-6 to 0-9.

The second half was very scrappy and littered with fouls and both teams used resultant frees as their main source of scoring. Marcas Toner slotted over 2 pointed frees with Loch Mór responding likewise. Loch Mór then extended their advantage to 6 points as they struck their second goal and quickly added another point from a free. Caoimhin Heaney (0-2fs), Deaglan Mooney (0-2fs) and Colm McKee’s third point of the day closed the gap to two points and we pushed hard for the winning goal. We were then awarded a free just out the 20 metre line and Stephen McGivern duly stepped up and blasted the sliotar low to the net to give us the win 2-13 to 2-12.

It’s onwards and upwards to the next game when we play Anraí Seoighe, next Sunday at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid at 2pm.
