Davitt U13 girls play for Antrim
|
Two Davitts girls, Christina Mc Garry and Laoise Mc Corry where selected and played for Antrim in an under 13 development squad last weekend.
They took part in a blitz against the hosts Louth, Armagh and Down. The competition made for a great day with our girls playing a full part in proceedings. The wee Antrim team played fantastically throughout and took the scalps of Armagh and Louth but were beaten by Down.
Again the mentors of the Davitts ladies teams would like to say how proud we are of the girls and to keep up the hard work . |

Ladies 7 a side blitz at Twinbrook
|
Our annual blitz took place last Sunday at the Brooke activity. As usual it was a highly enjoyable day with great skill and commitment shown by all that took part.
The day involved two age groups with the under 11s competing for the Patricia Brady trophy and the under 15s competing for the Elish O Riordan/ Breen shield.
In the under 15 competition we where let down by some teams pulling out. This left us with only Moneyglass to play. We have always had great matches with Moneyglass and have been on the receiving end of their footballing pedigree a few times. But last Sunday they met a well prepared and fit Davitts team who played some great football from the first whistle to the last and ran out convincing winners, showing great skills through their passing and moving and general support play for each other. These ten footballers would have been a match for any team in this form, and every one of them played their part in the victory.
The under 11s competition was a keenly contested and very tight affair right through all the matches. This again was a great spectacle with children as young as 6 all playing their hearts out and displaying great skills and play beyond their years.
Teams competed from St Brigids, Glenariffe, Moneyglass and a team from the hosts the Davitts. Each team played the other in very hard competitive and skilful contests with no more than a point or two between each team with each team leaving with at least one victory over another team and each capable of giving a match to any of the others.
In the end this trophy was won by a strong St Brigids side who won all their matches. I would like to thank all the teams that made the effort to participate and make it such a good day.

Davitts Ladies at Cavan U14 Feile
|
The ladies made the long trip down to Cavan starting early on Saturday morning heading for Brefini Park as Antrim’s representatives at this age group. We just made it in time to join the boys behind the club banner for the parade around the town. The rain didn’t dampen the spirits as we fell directly behind an amazing carnival band from Switzerland, for the walk around Cavan town.
After the parade it was down to business as we where then taken to our host club of St Finbarrs.
Above is the Davitts u 14s who competed in Cavan recently at the Feile. The experience, camaraderie, pride and enjoyment felt by all there was fantastic to experience. We played three games on the day against Scotstown from Monaghan, against St Finbarrs of Cavan and against Drumgoon of Cavan. We lost our first match against a big, fit, strong and well drilled Scotstown side who at the end won all three of their matches, they where just a step too far for us at this stage.
We next played against the host side St Finbarrs, this was a great match and provided us with a win and some great scores. This victory was built on rectifying the mistakes from the first match with the team executing some lovely passages of hand passing and moving forward resulting in a great victory.

The girls launch another attack on goal.
The third match was against another Cavan side called Drumgoon. This again was a very competitive game, with end to end attacking from two evenly matched teams. We went in at half time one point down and playing quite well. In the second half we spent almost the entire half camped in Drumgoons half but just couldn't convert enough of our numerous chances. Drumgoon possessed an excellent full forward who on the rare occasions she got the ball in the second half she was able to take her chances in the form of goals and delivered them the victory. The girls had given their all and had provided great entertainment, skill and commitment.
Throughout the day they also behaved impeccably with manners, respect and courtesy for the mentors for each other and for the Michael Davitts GAC.

This was our hosts St Finbarrs who made the day special with their generosity and courtesy. |

U12 Girls v St Pauls
|
On Wednesday 31 May the Davitt girl's Under 12 team travelled to Shaws Road to play the kingpins of Antrim ladies underage football - St Paul's. From past experience we knew it wasn't going to be easy, but we went into the game full of confidence and at full strength. The game started fairly even but St Pauls took a couple of early points to go into the lead. However, the Davitt girl's showed great composure and hit back with a goal and a point in quick succession from the Mc Varnocks, Demi and Leoncha. We held onto the lead for about ten minutes before St Pauls took it back with a succession of scores which had us rocking until the half time whistle.
In the second half we had the wind and managed to restrict St Paul's to a single point. We scored a goal from the boot of Stephanie Mc Keown who when moved into midfield in the second half played very well and during this time we should have yielded more scores. The second half showed what we can do when we play as a team, and we had some lovely passages of passing and moving .The game ended St Pauls 4-5 Davitts 2-1.
Some other players deserve a mention such as Kirsty Anne Toner, Christina Mc Garry, Chloe Donnelly, Leisha, Emma Magee, Nicole Mc Glone and Katie and Karen Mc Gonigle for great play on the night.
We played well on the night and are now showing that we are making steady progress as in our previous encounters with St Paul's we have struggled to score. |
