SAHL – Sarsfields 1-16 Davitts 2-22

The senior hurlers came away with an excellent win in a high scoring game at the Bear pit. It was a game with two committed sides going at it hammer and tong for the full hour which provided good quality entertainment for the spectators on a fine sunny evening.

The early stages of the first half both teams matched each other with the score level on five occasions with both teams striking some excellent scores. With the scores level at 0-6 we took the initiative and pushed on to strike 1-5 without reply to go in at the break 1-11 to 0-6 in front. First half scores came from Don Whelan 0-5, Chris Cunningham 1-1, Stephen McGivern 0-3, Anthony Rowntree 0-1 and Jordy O’Kane 0-1.

We quickly built on our advantage in the second half with two points from Stephen McGivern and Chris Cunningham’s second goal of the game. Playing some great hurling we established a sixteen point lead but a Sarsfield’s resurgence saw them go on a scoring spree and reduce the deficient to nine, however we had built up enough of a lead to see out the remainder of the game on a winning score line of 2-22 to 1-16. Second half scores came from Stephen McGivern 0-6, Chris Cunningham 1-0, Rory McEvoy 0-2, Don Whelan 0-2 and Chris Gallagher 0-1. Click here for photos of the game.
