The senior hurlers remain undefeated following an away win over St Galls at Milltown. A tight opening saw us take an early lead with points from Canice Mooney, Stephen McGivern and Cormac Maguire to take a 0-3 to 0-2 lead. A diagonal pass out of defence from Chris Gallagher, was then picked up by Stephen McGivern who soloed goal wards, hand passed off to Ciaran Rice who finished to the net. Two pointed frees from Don Whelan extended our advantage before Chris Mulligan whipped the ball to the St Galls net. Don Whelan was on target again with two further points to give us a half time lead 2-7 to 0-2.
St Galls had a great start to the second half striking 1-3 to reduce the deficit, but we immediately responded when Joe Carberry picked out Stephen McGivern from a puck out, Stephen raced from 40 yards out, leaving the St Galls defender trailing and duly dispatched a ferocious shot to the net. Don Whelan pointed a free before St Galls rallied with three points. Canice Mooney pointed from the right side after receiving a fine pass from Rory McIlroy but a St Gall’s goal put them back in contention as our lead had now been reduced to 4.
However we rallied at this stage and finished very strong with points from Cormac Maguire, Chris Mulligan, Kevin Brady (0-2), Geordie O’Kane and Stephen McGivern to win the game 3-15 to 2-8.
