The senior footballers succumbed to Naomh Treasa on Friday night, in this round 2 fixture in the Intermediate Football Championship.
The home side opened proceedings with a well worked goal after 3 minutes as they moved the ball freely down the centre of the pitch. We responded well and by the 11th minute were back on level terms courtesy of two pointed frees from Sean Smyth and a Caoimhin Slane point after good work from Caoimhin Rainey and Deaglan Mooney. However, Naomh Treasa went on the offensive and two 2 point scores were followed with their second goal as they continued to run at, and open our defense at will and the addition of a brace of points gave them a 10 point advantage after 25 minutes. Sean Smyth replied with another pointed free but two quick fire Naomh Treasa points in the 28th minute, both again after quick movement and support of the ball left us 2-9 to 0-4 in arrears at the break.
It took 4 minutes for the first point of the second half and it went to the home side. Sean Smyth took advantage of a Naomh Treasa indiscretion and when the referee moved the ball forward, he choose to take the option of a two point chance and he duly obliged. He quickly followed it up with another pointed free before the home side stalled our scoring with a point of their own. Michael Connolly kicked his first point of the day after another from the accurate boot of Sean Smyth but another surge from Naomh Treasa put the icing on the cake for the Glen Road side as they kicked another 1-3, going into the dying minutes of the game. Both teams finished the game with well taken points with substitute Marcas Toner side stepping his man and firing over a nice left footed shot with Naomh Treasa finishing worthy winners on a score of 3-15 to 0-10.
Scorers: Sean Smyth (0-7), Caoimhin Slane (0-1), Michael Connolly (0-1) and Marcas Toner (0-1)
