ACFL Div 2 Res – Mac Dáibhéid 1-9 Naomh Séamas 2-8

The senior reserve footballers put in a spirited performance at home to Naomh Séamas last Friday night but just came up short, going down by 2 points in the darkness at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid.

Naomh Séamas had the better of the first half and despite points from Chris Rafferty 0-2 (0-1f), Gerard Nugent and Conor Ferran we trailed by 5 at the break 0-4 to 1-6.

We started the second half much the better with three consecutive points from Conor Ferran, Chris Rafferty (f) and Ciaran Harkin to reduce the deficit to 2. Naomh Séamas then came straight back with a major to again give them some breathing space. We immediately clawed our way back into the game with a goal from Tony McLaughlin and with points from Michael Connelly and Antoin McLaughlin we were only a point in arrears. Naomh Séamas responded with a point and with darkness falling and time almost up we attacked for a final time. A rasping shot from outside the 20 metre line from Michael Connolly thumped off the crossbar and away to safety to give Naomh Séamas the points 1-9 to 2-8.

Scorers: Chris Rafferty 0-3, Gerard Nugent 0-1, Ciaran Harkin 0-1, Tony McLaughlin 1-0, Conor Ferran 0-2, Michael Connolly 0-1 and Antoin McLaughlin 0-1.
