The senior hurlers bowed out of the All-Ireland junior B series when losing out to the Galway champions in the Leinster quarter final at Heywood College, Abbeyleix.
While we had a few scoring opportunities early on we failed to convert them and Kinvara punished us with four unanswered points (3 frees) to lead by four. However 2 Gearoid Cosgrove points, from inside his own half, either side of a Kinvara point saw us reduce the deficit to a goal. However, Kinvara responded with another 3 points before Stephen McGivern firstly pointed and then flicked the ball to the net to leave two between the sides. Kinvara tagged on 2 points at the end of the half to take a 0-10 to 1-3 advantage at the break.
At this stage we were still well in the game, but Kinvara upped their game in
the second half and as they started to put us under pressure we began to concede more frees which the Kinvara free taker slotted over the bar at will. Despite giving it our all and with further points from Gearoid Cosgrove 0-2, Colm McKee  0-1 and a goal from a 21 yard free by Stephen McGivern, it wasn’t enough to trouble the Galway champions who ran out deserved winners 1-18 to 2-6.
While our preparation for this competition was excellent, we have still a
bit to get to the next level but we do have the potential. On a positive note, Kinvara have advanced to the Leinster final following a big win over their Laois opponents, so we can take heart from knowing we were up against a strong team.
We would also like to thank our sponsors, Flynn & McGettrick Solicitors, 26 West Bar & Grill, City Sightseeing Belfast and Hammond Lane Metal Co for their generous support.
