Trailing by 9 points, 20 minutes into the game and with the visitors well on top, it looked like there was no way back into the game for our senior footballers. Glenravel were quick of the mark and raced into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead with their goal from a penalty from the talented Eamon Fyfe. Our first point of the day came from the boot of Stephen Tully but Glenravel extended their advantage, which included Fyfe’s second goal to hold an impressive lead 2-4 to 0-1. However, we steadied the ship and broke the Glenravel dominance with points from Padraig McParland (0-2), Gerard Slane (0-2) and a Stephen Tully pointed free to give us a glimmer of hope that we could get back into the game. At half time we trailed 0-6 to 2-4.
Both teams traded points at the start of the second half (P McParland free), before we went on a scoring spree adding 5 points from D Largey, Padraig McParland (0-3) and Gerard Slane to lead for the first time in the game 0-12 to 2-5. At this stage we looked much sharper and it appeared that we had weathered the storm and would push on for the win. However, it wasn’t to be as Glenravel battled back into the game with some clinical finishing and in the final 10 minutes added 2-4 to their tally and despite points from Padraig McParland and Sean O’Neill Glenravel ran out victors by seven points on a score of 0-14 to 4-9.
