Last Saturday we made the long  journey to Collon, in County Louth, to face Mattock Rangers in the Tain Hurling League. Unfortunately, we came away with a heavy defeat but from the positive side of things we put in a sterling second half effort against a very good team. Mattock hit us from the throw in and within 15 minutes had hit four goals. From there on we were always on the back foot and despite our best efforts we just couldn’t stop their score taking.
The second half was totally different and a more even affair. We balanced out
the team and played much better as a unit with everyone working tirelessly for each other despite being a man down. We were more controlled with our tackling and cut out some of the stupid fouls that were a feature of our first half display. We had solid performances in the back line from Liam McHugh, Christy McNally and Michael Brady while young Eugene Gallagher battled hard in the forward line to get himself a goal. We have been using the Tain Hurling league as preparation for the Antrim league and in the second half we showed signs that we are on the right track. For photos of the match click here.
