ACHL Div 3 – Mac Dáibhéid 1-13 Glen Rovers 1-18

The senior hurlers put in a much improved performance despite coming out on the wrong side of the score in a keenly contested game at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid.

With the wind assistance in the first half we put together some great passages of play and took some fine scores. Marcas Toner struck our opening 4 points (3fs) and when Caoimhin Rainey added a brace of points, we lead 0-6 to 0-3 after 23 minutes. However, during this period we were also guilty of some wayward shooting and on several occasions lacked a bit of composure in front of goal when we had the opportunity to extend the lead further. The Armoy side benefitted from this and reduced our lead to a single point, before Caoimhin Rainey took possession of the sliotar from a ruck and raced goal wards, from the right side, and drilled the ball into the corner of the net. Marcas Toner added two points from frees and a final Armoy pointed free sent us in at the break 1-8 to 0-6 in front, with the question as to whether this was a sufficient advantage gained with a strong breeze.

Deaglan Mooney opened the second half scoring, when he won the sliotar from the throw-in and soloed into the opposition’s half and from long range split the posts. However, now with the wind assistance Glen Rovers started to pick off the points with four unanswered points (3fs), closing the deficit to two. Marcas Toner tagged on another point before a good passage of play resulted in an Armoy goal to level the game. We battled hard but were struggling to stop the accuracy of the Armoy side . They edged in front and despite points from Chris Gallagher (0-2) and Deaglan Mooney, we conceded too many frees and were punished accordingly. At the final whistle there were 5 between the sides on a score 1-13 to 1-18.

Scorers: Marcas Toner 0-7, Caoimhin Rainey 1-2, Deaglan Mooney 0-2 and Chris Gallagher 0-2
