ACFL Div 3 – Davitts 0-10 Dunloy 0-8

We got off to a winning start in our first match of the new senior football league against Dunloy at a very windy Falls Park. 3 quick points from C O’Riordan set us on our way. As our confidence grew so did the scoring with good scores from Anto Mc Grattan, Tony Kelly and Anthony Rowntree. Dunloy were struggling to cope with our ball movement and work rate and only for the wind we could have added a few more scores to our tally. Dunloy in one of their rare offensive plays managed to get their solitary point from a good exchange of passes. The final point of the half went to a hard working and strong running Anto Mc Grattan who took on his man, beat him easily and stroked the ball between the uprights.

The second half was a great backs to the wall effort with Dunloy pushing us back beyond our 20 metre line. We defended in numbers and worked tirelessly to make scoring opportunities difficult but they managed to score four unanswered points, two from frees before we managed to get our first score of the second half through a Ciaran O’Riordan shot. Pushing forward again we ground out 2 quick scores though Pearse Mc Auley and the the hard working Ryan Park. Dunloy pushed again and scored 3 further points before the referee brought an end to a hard fought and well earned win.

This was an excellent team performance and shows what can be achieved when we give 100% and work together as a unit. On the day Tony Kelly was outstanding and Ciaran O’Riordan was a tower of strength. Next game is on Sunday away to Tir na Nog with a 3.00pm throw in.
