Junior B Hurling Final – Davitts 2-10 Glenravel 3-9

DSC_0158A puck of the sliotar was all that separated the sides at the end of an exciting Junior B hurling championship final at Sarsfield’s pitch. We went into the game as big underdogs having gone down to Glenravel by 23+ points in our league encounter. However, we belied the odds and despite trailing at half time 2-5 to 0-4  (Stephen Toner 0-1, Canice Mooney 0-2 and Peter Carleton 0-1)our best was yet to come.

We firmly stepped up our intensity in the second half, and put Glenravel under severe pressure. We gave them no time on the ball and any scores they got they had to work for. We kept the scoreboard ticking over with points from Canice Mooney 0-3, Tommy Toland 0-1 and Alan Rainey 0-1 and with goals from Stephen Toner and Alan Rainey we had reduced the Glenravel lead to two points. Glenravel restored their goal advantage with a well taken point but Canice Mooney pointed to bring the deficit back to two. This made for an enthralling climax to the game as we threw everything at them to get that elusive goal but with time ebbing away Glenravel held out to take the win 3-9 to 2-10.

Credit to both teams for serving up a highly entertaining game which kept the supporters on their toes for the full duration. Although we did not take the silverware, we can be immensely proud of the effort that we put into the game with everyone prepared to give their all in the quest for victory. We have shown that we have the potential to deliver results at this level and hopefully this will be used as a stepping stone going forward to next year. Click here for photos from the game.
