The senior hurlers progressed to the final of the Junior B Hurling championship after an 11 point victory over Belfast Shamrocks at the Falls Park last Saturday night. Both teams made a positive start as they went point for point with Chris Gallagher firing over a brace of points. His third point of the game was quickly followed by an Alan Rainey goal and we had opened up a 4 point advantage. However, Shamrocks replied with 2 points of their own before a Chris Gallagher free and a Canice Mooney point restored the 4 point advantage. Both teams added a further point before half time with Chris Gallagher firing over his 5th point of the half. Half Time Davitts 1-6 Belfast Shamrocks 0-5.
We played our best hurling of the season in the second half adding 1-9 to our tally to run out convincing winners. We were solid defensively and ensured that we retained the 4 point advantage. In the last 15 minutes we opened up and finished the game strongly as we put Shamrocks under intense pressure. Our second half scores came from Jay Close 0-1, Chris Gallagher 0-2, Colm McKee 0-1, Anto McGrattan 1-1, Alan Rainey 0-2, Sean Prenter 0-1 and Canice Mooney 0-1. Click here for photos of the game.
We now progress to play St Agnes in the final and if our league encounter is anything to go by it should make for an interesting game with the Aggies running out with a single point victory on that occasion.
