The senior hurlers got off to a winning start in the ACHL Division 4 with a five point win over St Agnes at the Falls Park on Sunday. It was a game we controlled from start to finish and a great display of hurling was enjoyed by both sets of supporters.
We forged into an early lead with points from Alan Rainey, Sean Penter and Canice Mooney before two pointed St Agnes frees reduced the deficit to a single point. We continued to press forward and a brace of points for Canice Mooney and Sean Prenter gave us a five point lead. It should be highlighted that Sean Prenter’s second point was one to grace any pitch, the sliotar was driven low down the left wing, he jab lifted it and swiveled and in one movement struck it clean between the posts. Half time score 0-7 to 0-2.
The second half started in a similar fashion with points from Colm McKee and Anthony Rowntree extending our lead. Both teams exchanged further points with Sean Prenter
adding his fourth before a St Agnes goal from a free got them back into he game with only three points between the teams. However two points in quick succession from Chris Gallagher gave us the buffer and a Canice Mooney goal  sealed the game for us. A St Agnes late goal put a bit of gloss on the score line but we ran out deserved winners 1-12 to 2-4.
