The senior hurlers put in a very strong performance to earn a deserved victory away to O’Donnells. We were sharp from the start and with points from Rory McEvoy and Chris Gallagher 0-2 we set out our stall. However an O’Donnell’s goal brought the teams level before an Alan Rainey point restored our advantage. Canice Mooney then scored a wonder point from inside our own half to extend the lead. O’Donnells replied with a point, before a great piece off genius from Stephen Toner as he showed great stick work, evaded 2 defenders and from an acute angle blasted the sliotar to the net. He was not content with this and our next attack saw him hit the net again to give us a half time lead 2-5 to 1-1.
We continued in the same frame of mind in the second half as Colm McKee struck his first point of the game which was then followed by a good goal from Chris Gallagher. O’Donnells responded with two points but these were cancelled out with points from Sean McElhatton and Colm McKee. We finished the game strongly with further scores from Stephen Toner (0-1), Michael Hughes (1-0), Colm McKee (0-1) and Chris Gallagher and despite O’Donnell’s scoring 1-2 we ran out deserved winners 4-11 to 2-6.
