ACFL Div 2 – Mac Dáibhéid 0-12 Naomh Úna 0-4

The senior footballers were always in control and dominated the game in this home fixture against Naomh Úna at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid.

The bases for the win came in the opening 18 minutes of the game when we kicked 0-7 unanswered. Sean Smyth kicked of proceedings with a point from a 20 metre free and a good passage of play down the left side resulted in Gerard Slane kicking his first of the day. CJ Sullivan followed up with a nice right footed point, from the right side, and Jack Scally was on target when he finished after a high catch and subtle handpass from Anthony Rowntree. Young Brady Maguire got in on the scoring when the ball was worked through the hands, down the left side, and he duly converted the opportunity. Sean Smyth got his second after a nice solo and tap over the bar before a shot which looked goal bound from Anthony Rowntree shaved the crossbar for a minor. Naomh Úna got of the mark in the 23rd minute with a well taken point after the ball was worked left and finished with the outside of the boot. The final score of the half went to Sean Smyth who cut in from the right and finished with his left to give us a seven point cushion at the break.

The second half was a low scoring affair. While we managed the ball well we only added a further four points with scores from Sean Smyth (0-3) and Gerard Slane. Although, Naomh Úna tagged on three points we were comfortable winners on a score of 0-12 to 0-4.

Scorers: Sean Smyth 0-6, Gerard Slane 0-2, CJ Sullivan 0-1, Jack Scally 0-1, Brady Maguire 0-1 and Anthony Rowntree 0-1.
