Disappointing start to Div 2 campaign but Div 5 get second win

Davitts Senior footballers started their league campaign with a loss to neighbours McDermotts at Twinbook last Sunday, on the wrong end of a two point defeat, 0-12 to 2-8. They enjoyed plenty of possession and looked much the better team at different times but the visitors blitzed them with 1-3 in the final minutes of the first half to bring themselves back into the game. The second half was more evenly contested. Midway through the half, Davitts had edged ahead, only for the Macs to score a second goal at the other end, keeping their noses in front until the final whistle. On Wednesday night, they visited Sarsfields and came away with a share of the spoils, 1-9 to 2-6. Again, mistakes at crucial times cost Davitts dearly as Sarsfields held a 4 point advantage at the break. The second half was very open as Davitts held the home side scoreless between the 2nd and 23rd minutes, edging ahead for the first time with ten minutes left. But the game ebbed and flowed after that and Sarsfields converted a free in added time to level matters. The Division 5 footballers travelled to Antrim last Sunday and followed on from their victory against Aghagallon by claiming their second win of the league campaign, defeating Antrim Town by 6 points, 1-13 to 1-7.
