The senior footballers progressed to the next round of the Beringer Cup with a one point win over Ardoyne at Boucher Road on Thursday night. This was a repeat of last years final and the outcome was the same.
Ardoyne led early on, but with scores from Stephen McAlorum 0-1, Anto McGrattan 2-2, Ciaran O’Riordan 0-1 and Gerard Burns 0-1 we pushed on and led 2-5 to 1-3 at the break.
The second half was very cagey with Ardoyne looking to get back into the
game but we stayed solid defensively making it difficult for them to get easy scores. Points from Gerard Burns and Anto McGrattan gave us a five point cushion but Ardoyne responded with a point before being awarded a penalty which was despatched to the bottom right hand corner of the net. With time running out and a point in front we maintained possession of the ball, moving it about and running the clock down but a loose pass allowed Ardoyne one final attack but thankfully their effort went wide and we had secured a deserved win.
This was a very good performance and it was great to see our younger players coming into the team, K Meehan, T Kelly, J Close and N Slane. Click here for photos of the match.
