U16 Football Championship – Davitts 4-11 Naomh Og 2-6

Following the previous week’s league encounter we renewed acquaintances with St Agnes/Eire Og, Naomh Og, in the U16 football championship at Macrory Park on Thursday night. We got off to a flyer with early goals from P McAuley and D Wilson. This cushion allowed us to play free flowing football which our opponents despite their best efforts could not contain. During this purple match further scores from B Clarke (0-1), A Rowntree (1-0), T McGreevy (0-2) and P McAuley (0-1) gave us a 3-4 to 0-0 advantage. At this stage Naomh Og responded with 1-3 to reduce the deficit but the final point of the half from T McGreevy gave us a comfortable lead 3-5 to 1-3.

C Moreland scored the opening point of the second half, however Naomh Og upped their effort and when they added 1-2 the margin had been reduced to four. We regrouped and with scores from D Wilson (0-2), P McAuley (1-1) and T McGreevy (0-1) we pulled away to lead 4-10 to 2-5 with time almost up. Both teams traded points (C Moreland 0-1) in the dying moments to leave us winners on a score of 4-11 to 2-6 and progress to the next round.
