U16FL – Eire Og/St Agnes 2-13 Davitts 8-8

The U16 footballers had a thirteen point win over the combination footballers of Eire Og/St Agnes on Thursday night at Woodlands but the final score does not highlight how close this game actually was.

We got off to a slow start and found ourselves trailing 1-4 to 0-1 (D Wilson) before an A Rowntree goal kick started us into a response. Points from D Wilson, P McAuley and C Slane levelled the match and when Eire Og/St Agnes fired over another point we responded with goals from B Collins and N Carson and another P McAuley point. The last score of the half was an Eire Og/St Agnes point to leave us in front 3-5 to 1-6.

The second half was high scoring as we added 5-3 to our tally with Eire Og/St Agnes hitting 1-7. Our scores came from D Wilson 1-0, A Slane 1-2, B Collins 1-0, J Haughey 1-0 and P McAuley 1-1.

This was a dress rehearsal for the championship fixture next Thursday night. When we analyse the scoring we scored 16 times to Eire Og/St Agnes 15 and the difference on the night was our ability to be clinical in front of goal. We know we will be hard pushed on Thursday and that we will need to be on top off our game.
