The senior hurlers opened up their Division 4 league campaign with an away win over Latharna Og. The game played in difficult conditions saw us win by 2 points. It was a promising result against a much improved Larne outfit and on the day everyone played their part in getting the victory. We started the game well with Paul Morgan blasting to the net from a tight angle which was followed by a Thomas Toland long range point. Latharna Og then registered their first point from a free before further points from Canice Mooney and Michael Rowntree increased our advantage. Latharna Og responded with two points from play but we finished the half strongly with two points from Canice Mooney and a well executed point from Peter Carleton, half time score Latharna Og 0-3 Davitts 1-6.
Two early second half pointed frees from Canice Mooney put us in control of the game, but a Latharna Og pointed 65 and a pointed free cancelled out our good start. Canice then pointed another free before Michael Rowntree got his second point of the game. Three pointed frees from the Ogs left 5 between the sides. With time up the referee awarded Latharna Og a 21 yard free and it was subsequently dispatched to the back of the net to leave the final score Latharna Og 1-8 Davitts 1-10.
There were good performances from Micheal O’Brien and Liam McHugh in the back line, Michael Rowntree who covered every blade of grass, Canice Mooney who gave an exhibition in free taking and Peter Carleton who had a very good second half.
Scorers: P Morgan 1-0, T Toland 0-1, C Mooney 0-6, M Rowntree 0-2, P Carleton 0-1
