The senior footballers went down by 4 points, in their opening league game, in Division 2, at home to Gortnamona last Sunday. Following an early exchange of points (Gerard Burns 0-1) a somewhat opportunistic Gortnamona goal and a further point gave the Gorts a 4 point advantage and at that stage things were looking ominous. However, we regrouped and a Pearse McAuley goal and an Aaron Slane pointed free saw us level the game. The final score of the half came from a Niall Enright free to give Gortnamona a single point advantage on a score of 1-3 to 1-2.
We levelled the game on the restart when Gerard Burns got his second
point of the game from a close range free. Gort responded with a point before points from Aaron Slane and Daniel Largey edged us into the lead for the first time in the game. At this stage we were controlling the game, but a Gortnamona counter attack saw a low shot goal bound saved by keeper Aaron Slane but the rebound fell into the path of a Gortnamona forward who blasted to the net. A final Gortnamona point saw them take the spoils 2-6 to 1-5.
