The senior footballers picked up their first win of the season with a deserved win away to Gortnamona on Wednesday night. We played a high tempo game with great intensity in the tackle and drive when on the attack. We led at half time by a single point 0-5 to 0-4, with our scores coming from Aaron Slane 0-2, and points each for Sean McGovern, Billy McGovern and Nathan Maginn.
Despite Gortnamona kicking the first score of the second half, we took control and dominated for long spells. We went into a 0-13 to 0-6 lead and while Gortnamona tried to get back into the game we were able to fend of any real threat, restricting them to two further points to leave us victors 0-13 to 0-8. Our second half scores came from Aaron Slane 0-3, and points for Sean O’Neill, Daniel Largey, Sean McGovern, Anto McGrattan and Liam McGivern.
On the night everyone displayed great composure and determination to get the result but special mention has to go to young Nathan Maginn whose work rate was phenomenal as he worked tirelessly up and down the pitch.
