ACFL Div 2 – Mac Dáibhéid 3-15 Dun Laithí 0-9

Three consecutive league wins have definitely changed the mood in the senior football camp, with the latest a comprehensive home win over Dun Laithí at Páirc Mac Dáibhéid.

Two quick fire goals from Anthony Rowntree, the first a right footed finish and the second with his left, set the foundation for a good afternoon’s work. Dun Laithí hit back with 2 points (1f) but a Michael Connolly point and a rasping goal from CJ Sullivan extended our advantage. Both teams then traded three points each with Michael Connolly (0-2) and Anto McGrattan to leave the score 3-4 to 0-4 in our favour. Michael Connolly then added a goal, he raced goal wards and while his initial shot was parried out by the Dun Laithí keeper, he was alert and followed up to drive the ball to the net. The final score of the half was a Dun Laithí point, from a free, to leave the score 4-4 to 0-6.

We continued to dominate in the second half and added to our tally with Stephen Tully pointing from a 45 and Ceavy Slane, Michael Connolly and Gerard Slane all chipping in with points before a sole Dun Laithí point. Conor Toner then kicked his first point of the day and when Nathan Maginn picked out the perfect pass to split the Dun Laithí defence and find Gerard Slane, he shot past the helpless keeper. Dun Laithí kept going and added 2 further consolation points but we finished strongly with points from Anthony Rowntree and Michael Connolly (0-3) to win 5-13 to 0-9.
