The senior footballers kept their impressive league form going with a win over St Endas at the Falls Park on Wednesday night. Â Both teams traded points early in the game to see the teams level on four different occasions, our scores coming from Anto McGrattan 0-2, Gerard Burns and Ciaran O’Riordan. It took us a while to settle into the game but further points from Ciaran O’Riordan and another brace from Anto McGrattan saw us open up a three point advantage. The final score of the half came from St Endas leaving the score 0-7 to 0-5.
Liam McGivern kicked the opening point of the second half to extend our lead but St Endas rallied with three unanswered points to level the game. However, we regained our composure with Peter Carleton finishing to the net and Ciaran O’Riordan kicking another point to move us five clear. Â St Endas then added a point before they were awarded a penalty. The resultant spot kick was blasted wide and St Endas had wasted an opportunity to reduce the deficit to a single point.
This appeared to be the turning point of the match as we increased the tempo of our game and St Endas couldn’t cope as we tagged on 1-3 without reply. A goal and a point came from Liam McGivern, with the other points from Gerard Burns and Caoileann Meehan to see us over the line 2-13 to 0-9.
This maintains our second spot in the league.
