The senior footballers secured two much needed league points away to McDermotts at the Falls Park on Wednesday night. We opened brightly with Sean McGovern slotting over a pointed free for the first score of the game. However, the Macs hit back with four unanswered points before we regained our composure and reduced the deficit with points from Ryan Rooney and Stevie Dobbin. The final point of the half went to McDermotts and left us trailing 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.
Things looked bleak in the second half as three McDermott’s points left five between the teams. However, we burst into life and started to move the ball quicker. Points from Anto McGrattan, Tony Kelly, and Gerard Burns 0-2 left the minimum between the sides. The equalising point was one of high
quality. Young Nial Slane took possession of the ball on his own 21 yard line, raced out of defense at pace and hand to toed through the Mac’s midfielders into their back line. He jinked through their defense took the tackle, made the space for himself and slotted over the bar for a tremendous score.
This gave us the lift and the momentum had turned in our favour. We applied the pressure and with further points from Collie O’Riordan and Anto McGrattan we secured the victory. Click here to view gallery.
