The senior hurlers were soundly defeated by Con Magee’s is this away encounter at Glenravel.
We started well with a brace of points, one from a long range Chris Gallagher free and the second from Colm McKee to take the early initiative. However, Con Magee’s opened their account with a well worked goal and quickly followed with a point from the subsequent puck-out. Anthony Rowntree found his range as he slotted the sliotar over the bar before both teams traded points with Stephen McGivern and Deaglan Mooney on target. Con Magee’s then took control of the game, extending their lead to five, but we kept on their coat tails with further points from Stephen McGivern and Anthony Rowntree. Con Magee’s then struck the killer blow with two quickfire goals in the space of a minute to open a ten point advantage but we finished the half with two points from Anthony Rowntree to trail 3-7 to 0-8 at the break.
We never recovered from this set back and in the second half Con Magee’s kept us under pressure, picking off some quality scores. Scores from Stephen McGivern (0-1), Anthony Rowntree (1-1) and Colm McKee (0-1) were only consolation scores as Con Magee’s ran out convincing winners 5-16 to 1-11.
