ACHL Div 3 – Mac Dáibhéid 1-7 Dun Laithí 6-24

The senior hurlers had a baptism of fire when pitted against a quality Dun Laithí side at Páirc Mhic Dháibhéid in their first outing in Division 3, last Sunday.

Despite a nice finish in the opening minute when Anthony Rowntree flicked the sliotar past the Dun Laithí goalkeeper to the net, it gave us false hope as it was the Dun Laithí men who dominated for long periods of the game. They worked the sliotar well and were clinical with their shooting and while we tagged on first half points from Stephen McGivern, Donn Whelan and Deaglan Mooney, they accumulated a comfortable lead at the break 1-3 to 1-13.

Both teams exchanged points on the restart with Stephen McGivern striking his second and if the game hadn’t already gone, a Dun Laithí win was cemented when when they struck their second goal in the 34th minute. A brace of points from Chris Gallagher made little in roads to the deficit while Dun Laithí scored at will and in a devastating burst fired in a further four goals. Our only response was a Donn Whelan point and at the final whistle Dun Laithí had taken a comprehensive win.
