ACHL Div 3 – Ros Earcain 3-15 Mac Dáibhéid 2-8

The senior hurlers came out second best in this away fixture to Ros Earcain last Sunday. We produced a lack lustre performance and Ros Earcain were worthy winners.

We were well in the game in the opening quarter with points from Cormac Maguire, Stephen McGivern and Don Whelan (0-2) with the sides level at 0-4 a piece. However, Ros Earcain then delivered a killer blow with their first goal of the game and quickly followed with a brace of points to stamp their authority on the game. Despite a Don Whelan pointed free it was Ros Earcain who finished the half the stronger with 2 points from frees to lead 1-8 to 0-5 at the break.

Don Whelan pointed a free on the restart but Ros Earcain responded with a further 2 point salvo. Marcus Toner then fired over a nice point while on the run but a Ros Earcain second goal then left us with it all to do. Don Whelan pointed before Anthony Rowntree used his strength to push past his marker and finished to the back of the Ros Earcain net to leave us 2 goals in arrears. However, any hopes of a comeback were short-lived as Ros Earcain responded with 1-2 to put the game to bed. We got a consolation goal from a Don Whelan free but a final Ros Earcain point from a free gave them a 3-15 to 2-8 win.
