The senior hurlers made it two wins from three outings in Division 4 of the All County Hurling League with a two point win over local rivals McDermotts at Boucher Road.
Playing against a strong wind in the first half, we made a positive start with Canice Mooney firing over three points to give us the early lead. However, after this McDermotts fought their way back into the game and with some well executed frees rattled off six unanswered points. Our final score of the half was a Canice Mooney free which saw us go in two points down at he break.
We tried to up our game from the restart and make use of the wind advantage and with Canice Mooney adding three more points to his tally and Stephen McGivern getting on the score board we had managed to cancel out McDermotts four second half points which meant we still trailed by two. However, we were then to take the lead as Canice Mooney raced passed the McDermotts defenders and blasted the sliotar high into the roof of the net to give us a one point advantage. McDermott’s response was instant as they levelled with a pointed free and with time ebbing away both teams looked for the score that could possibly give them victory. The vital scores came from Canice Mooney as he slotted over two quick fire points to bring his personal tally to 1-10  and to give us an important win.
Our man of the match without  question was Canice Mooney with his impressive tally of 1-10 with Joe George also worthy of a mention for the sterling hour’s work that he got through in defence.  Click here for a few photos of the game.
