This was a game that the senior hurlers had to win to keep themselves in contention for league honours but over the course of the game Ard Eoin did just enough to edge to a two point victory, putting them in pole position to claim the league title.
Ard Eoin opened with two points from frees but we responded with three points in a row from Marcas Toner (2fs) to take the lead. Both teams contrived to strike point for point with never more than a difference of two between the side and with points from Stephen McGivern (0-2) and Marcas Toner we held a slender one point lead at the half time whistle.
The second half followed the same pattern with Ard Eoin withstanding a few early goal attempts but neither side was able to dominate proceedings for any length of time and at the 35th minutes were level with Marcas Toner adding two points to his tally. Ard Eoin then struck the only major of the game to put them in prime position but back we came with points from Chris Gallagher, Deaglan Mooney and Marcas Toner to level again with five minutes left on the clock. However, Ard Eoin then tagged on a brace of points and despite our best endeavour we couldn’t break down their defence to get the goal we badly needed and they held on for a two point win 0-14 to 1-13.
